The development objective of the Innovations in Solar Power and Hybrid Technologies Project for India is to demonstrate the operational and economic feasibility of utility-scale innovative renewable energy technologies and battery energy storage solutions, and contribute to strengthen institutional capacity to facilitate scale-up of such technologies on a commercial basis in India. Some of the negative impacts include: (i) impact on reservoir water;(ii) risk due to earthquake; (iii) risk on aquatic fauna; (iv) risk of livelihood; (v) pollution by construction spills; (vi) health risks and cultural hazard; (vii) air pollution; (viii) noise pollution; and (ix) generation and disposal of waste. Some of the mitigation measures include: (i) to estimate and deploy boats to an optimum, which can be estimated after consultation with design and execution team; (ii) a comprehensive construction plan which would include securing the switchyard site on all sides with appropriate screens before commencing site clearance and excavation to limit the spread of dust; (iii) all construction raw materials should be covered with tarpaulin sheet during transportation and in storage areas; (iv) ensuring pollution under control certification for all the project vehicles; (v) storing flammable liquids, if any in secured drums and barrels with adequate fire protection; (vi) the project team should be sensitised regarding the air pollution aspects related to project; and (vii) the project should take afforestation as part of a carbon mitigation project in consultation with the State Forests Department.
