[경제] Restricting Crop Residue Burning Practices in Punjab, Pakistan: What Needs to be Bone?

파키스탄 국외연구자료 연구보고서 - SDPI 발간일 : 2024-08-27 등록일 : 2024-09-20 원문링크

Crop residue burning significantly contributes to air pollution, particularly in the Punjab's wheat-rice region, which encompasses over 80% of the cultivated area. Poor air quality can shorten life expectancy by an average of 4.3 years. Crop burning releases large quantities of particulate- matter polluting the air for humans. Studies reveal that residue burning releases CO₂, CH₄, and N₂O emissions, exacerbating our already compromised air quality. These emissions cause lung and heart problems in many people. Despite public concerns over the poor air quality, residue burning remains a continuous practice among farmers. To bring about a meaningful change, a holistic approach is needed that incorporates systems thinking across economic, regulatory, and informational policies.
