An Analysis on the Authority of the GCC Based on the Network Theory

Summary: This paper tackles the form and structure of authority stemming from the Arabian Peninsula. The Gulf area, geographically located on the central part of the Middle East, is also taking the center position in the international economic and political arena. As the main oil exporters, all the Gulf states have huge influence on the global economy, not to mention only Saudi Arabia with the biggest oil deposit in its territory, and from this economic power can they take important roles in the international politics. Moreover, the 6 countries on the Arabian Peninsula – Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and United Arab Emirates – gather to form their regionalspecific interstate community Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC, and exert collective power through this organization. This regional organization with the purpose of economic, political and security integration consists the one of the core characteristics of Gulf interstate politics, with their political stability, relative prosperity, and consistent moderate ideology.
