INFLUENCE OF BUDDHISM ON GENDER AND CULTURE IN SRI LANKA

According to Sinhalese tradition, Buddhism took root in Sri Lanka soon after the arrival of Sam rat Asoka’s son the Mahindra and six monks. These monks were converted king Devanampiya Tessa and much of the nobility. Sri Lanka has been long associated and its impact on the nations Society, culture, gender, and history to the earliest surviving chronicles from the island, long before the arrival of Buddhism to this beautiful Lanka was inhabited by aborigines comprising of tribes known as Yekhas (demon worshipers) and the cobra worshipers and the Gods.
