This thesis examines publications during the Gabo and Gwangmu reforms, as they directly relate to Turkey. Although the relationship between Korea and Turkey dates as far back as The Three Kingdoms period, Koreans began to take a considerable interest in Turkey starting from the late 19th century. At the end of the 19th century, as Korea’s socio-political problems arose, Korean intellectuals began to observe other countries, looking to gain further insight on how to better protect, recover and develop their nation’s identity. Thus, because Koreans viewed Turkey as a country facing often relatable internal and external conflicts, they would go on to analyze Turkey in detail.
