[경제] COVID-19 and Its Impact on Culture: The Experience of Nepal

With the subsequent rise of the COVID-19 cases worldwide and the declaration of Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHIEC) by WHO, every country has realized increase public health concerns. The uncertainty of the availability of the vaccine to every people again leads to a panic situation among the public. Different non-pharmaceutical preventive techniques are adopted by most countries, including nationwide complete and partial lockdown, physical distancing, and giving awareness and encouraging people to practice hygienic measures such as wearing a protective mask, frequent hand washing, using alcohol-based hand sanitizer, etc. Nepal government has adopted a complete nationwide lockdown for almost six months with shut down of all cinema halls, gyms, health clubs, and museums as well as banned the gathering of people for cultural, social, and religious activities including temples, monasteries, churches, and mosques and partial lockdown for next two months. Still, yet many of the public places are not open. Although these measures have been taken to prevent this contagious disease, the fear, anxiety, panic situation, and uncertainty created in the people are in ruins. The psychological and socio-cultural effects of the illness and its mitigation measures are significantly higher than the actual physical health effect due to COVID-19, which are in the shadow and not noticed. Moreover, the indirect impact on the economy, social harmony, religious and cultural beliefs, and processes, and others so many sectors are beyond the fact seen on the face of this pandemic.
