The Government of Pakistan (GOP) launched the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) in July 2008 to serve as the premier national safety net institution with the primary and sole objective of consumption smoothing and alleviating adverse effects of slow economic growth. The initiative was launched when the country was faced with daunting challenges of socio-economic constraints and a deprived segment of a society engulfed with a plethora of financial woes. Having said that, the skyrocketing prices of necessities, rapidly growing inflation and meagre resources had remained the major concerns of considerable segment of the general populace. The very program ensures the even transfer of the amount to the faction of the destitute women and their families living in deteriorating financial conditions. Provision of such cash transfer facility has been assured regardless of any political affiliations and irrespective of the fact of any caste, creed, or geographical identity of the beneficiary. In addition, it is pertinent to mention the fact, that the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) also reiterate eradicating severe poverty and emphasize women empowerment. In this context, the aspiration and ambition of the program are also to strengthen the financial capacity of a necessitous section of the society. As this would not only help implement and formulate robust policies but also mitigate the financial troubles of disadvantaged families and their dependents. According to NNS 2018, Pakistan has had persistently high rates of stunting with 40.2 percent. In response to the high burden of stunting in Pakistan and its long-term consequences, the Government of Pakistan (GoP) as per the initiative of the former Prime Minister has officially launched a first-of-its-kind Program on August 13, 2020, that aims to improve nutrition and prevent stunted growth of underprivileged children in the country using conditional cash transfer strategy of World Bank. Ehsaas Nashonuma Program is fully funded by the government of Pakistan and World Food Program has been hired as an implementing partner to carry out all the activities of the program throughout the country.
