The objectives of the Jharkhand Power System Improvement Project for India are to increase the transmission capacity of electricity network in the state of Jharkhand and strengthen the institutional capacity of state-owned power transmission and distribution utilities. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: consultation with local community and stakeholder’s engagement; written consent from community or owner of the land required for stocking construction material temporarily; providing accommodation facilities to the migrant labors with proper ventilations; minimize labor influx as much as possible by engaging local labor; ensure separate labor camps for the labor, away from religious places and localities to the extent possible; grievance redressal system for the project to address such issues including sexual harassment at the workplace; displaying of various legal provisions on site, in labor camps and at prominent locations in the project area; and undertaking regular surveillance at site to check on Hygiene conditions for disease control and also to ensure that no discharges from the site are made to the adjoining sites.
