Ratings for the Swachh Bharat Mission Support Operation Project for India were as follows: outcome and Bank performance was satisfactory, and monitoring and evaluation (M and E) quality was substantial. Some lessons learned included: strong leadership and a whole-of-government approach were key enablers of successful Swachh Bharat Mission - Gramin (SBM-G) implementation. Successful program delivery requires strong institutional capacity and systems at all levels. Program-for-results (PforR) is an effective instrument for institutional strengthening when integrated in the program results framework. Open defecation free (ODF) sustainability will require sustained efforts to promote behavior change and infrastructure upkeep.
