The project comprised a loan to fund a portion of the interstate investments including two 765-kilovolt (kV) alternating current transmission lines and one 400-kV alternating current transmission line. It also included one 765/400 kV substation in Rajasthan state, upgraded to two existing 765/400 kV substations in Punjab and Rajasthan states, and equipment for measuring and monitoring real-time power flows, which was subsequently dropped. In addition, the project supported interregional transmission capacity augmentation between the southern and western region by financing HVDC transmission link comprising two 800-kV terminals: one in Chhattisgarh state (western region) and another one in Tamil Nadu state (southern region), along with two 320-kV HVDC terminals in the southern region connecting Pugalur in Tamil Nadu with North Trichur in Kerala.
