In the Spring of 2020, Europe and the rest of the world were hit with unparalleled impact by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). The COVID-19 pandemic was linked to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), firstly identified in China in December 2019 [1]. The virus quickly spread through Europe, and according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), there were many millions of cases and significant numbers of COVID-19-related fatalities in Europe. The spread occurred in various time waves in the period 2020–2021 and with variable epidemiology across European countries.
