This study presents an analysis of gender inequalities in time use based on data from the 2023 Time Use Survey (EUT), the first statistical study of Venezuelan households since 2011, designed to collect representative information on the daily time of the population over 10 years of age. The study collects information on the time spent on three large groups of activities: paid work, unpaid work, and personal activities.According to the EUT 2023, deep gender imbalances related to time use persist in the Venezuelan population, the most evident effects of which are the following: (i) women`s participation in the labor market is 23 percentage points lower than that of men; (ii) 88.7% of Venezuelan women do unpaid domestic work (direct, indirect, or passive care), while only 60.7% of men do so (-28 percentage points). Women spend a total of 6 hours and 18 minutes a day on this type of work, while men spend 3 hours and 36 minutes; (iii) 22.6% of Venezuelan women provide direct care to dependent persons (children, elderly, sick), a proportion that is almost three times greater than that of men; (iv) 85.1% of women perform indirect care tasks at home (cleaning, cooking, washing, ironing, etc.), while less than half of men (47.6%) participate in such tasks; (v) in terms of total work time, paid or not, women in Venezuela work, on average, 12 hours and 49 minutes a day, 11% more time than men.
