[언어] Languages, Linguistic Diversity and the Women’s Writing in South Asia

인도ㆍ남아시아 일반 국내연구자료 학술논문 Ramesh Chand Sharma 남아시아연구 발간일 : 2008-08-31 등록일 : 2017-08-17 원문링크

South Asia, comprising the nations of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan, is a vast region that encompasses not only linguistic and cultural diversity but also a wide variety of geographical features: mountains, deserts, and tropical climes which have influenced both the history and the lives of its people. With a dimension of coexistence and sensitivity so characteristic of the large parts of this area due to the presence of different religions and faiths, it is certain that the status of women in the society in this region has changed over time often indicative of the standard of social organization. The region has largely been shaped by its chequered historical past even though it inherits or shares a great deal of affinity or convergence in spite of this vast inherent geographical, linguistic and cultural diversity of the region. Linguistic diversity in South Asia is seen on a magnitude unparallel elsewhere on the globe. Social issues predominant in the region have always tended to influence the lives of women in South Asia. Even though large number of languages spoken here are yet to evolve their literary potential, several of the languages have grown as powerful vehicles of the literary creativity of their people. Women’s writing in these languages also represents the strength and creativity in their literature and also reflects the vast ethos and social milieu in which they have been placed for centuries, but it also reflects their struggle and the emerging consolidation of their position to effect change in life in general and in society in particular. The region has had a rich historical past with many ancient civilizations that emerged and developed here.
