The objective of the Punjab Cities Program Project for Pakistan is to strengthen the performance of participating urban local governments in urban management and service delivery. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: review of operational schedules for pumps, particularly in terms of reducing operation during peak hours, and recommending whether investment in such elements as Over Head Reservoirs (OHRs) may be viable at certain sites to rationalize operating hours; repair, overhaul, and servicing needs of vehicles and street lights; recommend where it may be viable to replace existing vehicles/equipment models in the medium to long term with more energy efficient ones; replace existing high power streetlight luminaries with Light Emitting Diode (LED) luminaries; assess and recommend whether investments in other power sources such as solar power, is viable for street lights, in view of unreliable power supply and potential economic dividends at certain locations; and assess the feasibility of operation of tube wells and disposal works on solar power and work out the capital cost and payback period for a tube well pumping unit with 50 BHP motor and disposal works having 100 BHP load. Also work out the space required for installation of solar panels for these loads.
