In the history of Russia intelligentsia's discussion on Russia's identity is summarized in two questions: where is Russia located in the process of world history and where does Russia go now. A long fervent debate on russian identity between East and West is a fairly typical example of this discussion. In this paper we focus on an early eurasianism, which shows well this intellectual tradition. First of all, we briefly examine the influence of old slavophile thinkers and V. S. Solov'ev on eurasianists. Then, we take a critical approach to the theories of the eurasianist movement: criticism of eurocentrism, emphasis on russian orthodoxy, ideocratia and development place. Above mentioned major issues of Eurasianism are criticised by us for their imperialism, messianic nationalism, totalitarianism, and geographic determinism. Eurasianists wishes to unify multinational country on the basis of 'Russian orthodoxy' and 'ideocratia', but the combination of these two factors strengthens conservatism and autocracy of Eurasianism.
