Contrary to the conventional wisdom that attainment of two goals ofhigh economic growth and equality in income distribution is impossi-ble,recentpolicy in Brazil in the wake ofthe Lula governmentdemonstrates a possibilityof catching two rabbitsat a single shot.This paper brings into attention several structural factors andeconomic policies adopted by the Lula government. And we put forward ahypothesis that the general themeof incompatibiltybetween higheconomic growth andequality of income could be modified once special factors inherent in a country are brought into consideration
