Zingiber ottensii Valeton was recently discovered for Vietnam from Mount Dầu, Quảng Ngãi; Sao La Nature Reserve, Đông Giang, Quảng Nam; Liên Sơn village, Na Ngoi commune, Kỳ Sơn, Nghệ An. A full description with a colour plate and notes on the variability in morphology, distribution, phenology and uses of this species are given.
