[경제] Call for Papers: Transport and Communications Bulletin for Asia and the Pacific, No.92 “Environmental Sustainability of Transport”

동남아시아 일반 국외연구자료 연구보고서 - ESCAP 발간일 : 2022-01-24 등록일 : 2022-01-27 원문링크

The Transport and Communications Bulletin for Asia and the Pacific is a peer-reviewed journal published every year since 1950 by the Transport Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

Passenger and freight volume is expected to double by 2050 compared 2015. Transport sector accounts for 25 per cent of CO2 emissions from fuel consumption and road transport is responsible for 75 per cent of transport CO2 emissions. Major GHG emitter countries are in Asia. UNFCCC COP26 in Glasgow recognized that rapid, deep, and sustained reductions in global greenhouse gas emissions and CO2 emissions are necessary to limit global warming to 1.5°C. One of the target sectors for reducing emissions is the transport sector.

Asia is leading in many fronts towards environmental sustainability and decarbonization of transport such as adoption of low carbon transport strategies; development of mass transit systems in cities; shift to renewable energy resources such as transition towards electric mobility; and prioritizing active mobility. However, the pace is not enough to decarbonize transport by mid-century as committed by many countries. Therefore, transport policy makers, planners and stakeholders from the region need to accelerate actions in the transport sector to reduce GHG emissions and enhance environmental sustainability of transport systems and services.

Adoption of low-carbon development path, exploring use of renewable and alternate energy, developing mass public transport system, prioritizing electric and active mobility, and enhancing efficiency of transport operations are some of the policies reflected in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of Asia-Pacific countries. Analysis of transport systems using Avoid-Shift-Improve framework can offer some policy insights towards environmental sustainability. The ESCAP Regional Action Programme (2022-2026) also stress the importance of low-carbon transport and mobility and environmental sustainability of transport systems and services.
