This study aims to investigate the economic gains from gender inclusion by constructing the Indonesian micro dataset at the individual level, aggregated to the province level over the 2010-2019 period. By differentiating between genders in the analysis, male and female labour are found to be complementary in production—emphasizing the favourable impact of gender inclusion on growth. We also find that narrowing gender gaps benefits both men and women, because of a boost to male productivity (hence wages) from higher FLFP. The results imply a strong call for the Indonesian government to develop policy strategies and initiatives to close the gender gap in the labour market landscape.
