Mobility, tourism, and employment conditions are improving as expected. However, softening global demand and flooding are weighing on the growth outlook. The World Bank increased Thailand’s growth projection to 3.1 percent in 2022 but reduced projected growth in 2023 to 4.1 percent Inflation remained high, second highest among major ASEAN economies, but decelerated as global energy prices softened. However, food price pressure mounted due to flooding. The authorities have maintained fuel subsidies, incurring a significant fiscal cost of 1.6 percent of GDP in 2022. Additional borrowing to support energy subsidies may be needed, delaying the fiscal consolidation path.
